My Nomination for VUWSA Elections
I have decided to submit my nomination for the upcoming VUWSA elections for the position of Welfare Vice-President.

I believe that i am right for the job, I have had a small amount of experience on the VUWSA, and know how it works.

I want to be able to help students with their welfare problems and also I wish to be a cool head on the Executive. I know majority of the executive and would be willing to work with them to achieve the issues that students give us a mandate for.

I shall try and post my manifesto on here later tonight.

Jono for WVP 2006
NT and the VUWSA AGM
Today I tried to move a motion at the VUWSA AGM, my motion was as follows.

"That the following be added to the VUWSA constitution:

"That Ngai Tauria be added to the list of Representative Groups in Schedule
9 of the VUWSA constitution as the Representative Group for Maori Students.

And in addition to this it be constitutionally binding that Ngai Tauria must present a budget to the VUWSA exec very year, in the same way that all other Rep groups do. This budget must be broken down into individual budget lines, where estimated costs and where possible quotes are included.”

This was said to be 'ultra virea' which means the motion was unconstitutional, the reasoning behind this is as VUWSA has a clause in its Constitution which states:
"That within this structure and in promoting these interests, VUWSA recognise the Maori as Tangata Whenua of Aotearoa, act in accordance with Te Tiriti of Waitagi/The treaty of Waitangi in Schedule 8 of this constitution, and acknowledge Ngai Tauira of te Kura Wananga o te Upoko o te Ika a Maui as official representatives of Maori Students on campus"

The reasons I was given by the Lawyers seems that the mention of the treaty is the problem as it refers to some autonomy for Maori and that my motion was opposing to this.

Ok so what I get from this is that I am now going to put a motion forward to delete this clause from the constitution and then attempt to put my motion once the clause has been removed.

But the saddest part of this for me is it seems that Race-based funding is a part and parcel of our world and the fact is it is so hard to get rid of that most people would not be bothered to try and remove it, I am going to poush as hard as i can and keep working for this til the end result is in.

Oh just for those statistical minded out there, At Victoria currently we have 7.8% of all students are Maori students, VUWSA started negotiating with NT and offered them 7.8% of VUWSA'a budget, NT demanded 15%, then with movements VUWSA has moved to 10% and NT has moved to 13.3%, I don't see how this is not Racist funding, because they are Maori they have been offered more than their fair share as a percentage of VUWSA's budget. This is unfair and not on at all.

Out with Race-based funding.

Campaigning is fun
I have started to notice some trends after a few nights working in the call centre. firstly people seem really happy to answer surveys from about 6.30 onwards. Before that We get a lot of NO's earlier non but it seems once we get past dinner time people wanna talk about the election and the responses are also better after people have eaten and the results of our surveys are showing a great increase in support for Rodney within the Epsom electorate, and in other electorates support for ACT appears over the 5% as well.

Yes without a doubt ACT will be back after the election and Rodney Hide will most likely win Epsom.

Whoops
I guess putting a small section on the front page can make for interesting looking stories like this example.

Nat’s tax cut policy good news for New Zealand
Friday, 19 August 2005

Rodney Hide, Taxation

ACT Leader Rodney Hide today praised National’s commitment to cut taxes by $2.

I found this here on ACT's website, interesting so I will get 2 packs of chewing gum I guess.
Campaining
I am busy working campaigning for ACT for the coming election, right now I am sitting in a call centre directing calls into Epsom about the current election and what people are thinking about the situation in Epsom, and how it could affect the outcome of the election.

The results are quite interesting it seems that Epsom voters do know how the situation is working and how their electorate vote could affect the outcome of the General Election itself.

They do seem to be very informed about it and they do know whats going on. From the responses we seem to be recieving I don't think there is a chance of ACT missing out on being back after the election.

I have also been out handing pamphlets and delivering mail as well as waving banners and signs as well. All of the responses have been very good, I don't think that the polls are very accurate at the moment and it seems the more we can get the word out there about the situation, the more knowledge the better the results seem to be for ACT.

More on the Campaign later.

Life, I don't know how this happens
I met a girl not so long ago and in the short time we knew each other I grew to love her more than I have loved anyone else ever before. I had never felt this way about anyone ever before, I don't know what to say. This is really hard, She lived in Canada and I loved her so much no matter what the distance we were willing to make this work. On Tuesday night I got an email that completely ripped my heart out, on Monday at 12.40pm EST She passed away, this has hit me harder than anything ever in my life, I loved her so much. Even though I never got to meet her face to face she was the loveliest person I have ever met and I feel really bad I can't go to her funeral, but I can at least write my words to her here, It is really hard to write this at this time, but I need to write it all somewhere. I don't understand how this happens, she was only 23, why do all the good ones go so young it doesn't seem fair when they have so much life left to live. If you are a regular reader of my blog you will know this is the third Tradgedy close to me this year, I am starting to turn into a wreck and don't know what to do or how to do it. She was the greatest person ever and my love for her was unconditional and I will love her til the end of my time on earth there will always be a place in my heart for her no matter what happens in my life. I will probably not be blogging to much over the next little while, as this has hit me so hard and I will be out and about trying to get things done. I know she is up there and looking down on me now and watching over me for the rest of my life, I have realised over this last year how short life is, how important your friends are and how much you need to be living for today it is needless to say it has been a steep learning curve for me this year and I have grown up a hell of a lot. These circumstances take me to an e-mail she sent me not so long ago when one of my mates sisters was taken by cancer, the story is in its full version below.

Sally jumped up as soon as she saw the surgeon come out of the operating room. She said: "How is my little boy? Is he going to be all right? When can I see him?"
The surgeon said, "I'm sorry. We did all we could, but your boy didn't make it."
Sally said, "Why do little children get cancer? Doesn't God care any more? Where were you, God, when my son needed you?"
The surgeon asked, "Would you like some time alone with your son? One of the nurses will be out in a few minutes, before he's transported to the university."
Sally asked the nurse to stay with her while she said good-bye to son. She ran her fingers lovingly through his thick red curly hair.
"Would you like a lock of his hair?" the nurse asked.
Sally nodded yes. The nurse cut a lock of the boy's hair, put it in a plastic bag and handed it to Sally. The mother said, "It was Jimmy's idea to donate his body to the university for study. He said it might help somebody else. "I said no at first, but Jimmy said, 'Mom, I won't be using it after I die. Maybe it will help some other little boy spend one more day with his Mom." She went on, "My Jimmy had a heart of gold. Always thinking of someone else. Always wanting to help others if he could."
Sally walked out of Children's mercy Hospital for the last time, after spending most of the last six months there. She put the bag with Jimmy's belongings on the seat beside her in the car. The drive home was difficult. It was even harder to enter the empty house. She carried Jimmy's belongings, and the plastic bag with the lock of his hair to her son's room. She started placing the model cars and other personal things back in his room exactly where he had always kept them. She laid down across his bed and, hugging his pillow, cried herself to sleep.
It was around midnight when Sally awoke. Laying beside her on the bed was a folded letter. The letter said:

"Dear Mom, I know you're going to miss me; but don't think that I will ever forget you, or stop loving you, just 'cause I'm not around to say I LOVE YOU. I will always love you, Mom, even more with each day. Someday we will see each other again. Until then, if you want to adopt a little boy so you won't be so lonely, that's okay with me. He can have my room and old stuff to play with. But, if you decide to get a girl instead, she probably wouldn't like the same things us boys do. You'll have to buy her dolls and stuff girls like, you know. Don't be sad thinking about me. This really is a neat place. Grandma and Grandpa met me as soon as I got here and showed me around some, but it will take a long time to see everything. The angels are so cool. I love to watch them fly. And, you know what? Jesus doesn't look like any of his pictures. Yet, when I saw Him, I knew it was Him. Jesus himself took me to see GOD! And guess what, Mom? I got to sit on God's knee and talk to Him, like I was somebody important. That's when I told Him that I wanted to write you a letter, to tell you good-bye and everything. But I already knew that wasn't allowed. Well, you know what Mom? God handed me some paper and His own personal pen to write you this letter. I think Gabriel is the name of the angel who is going to drop this letter off to you. God said for me to give you the answer to one of the questions you asked Him 'Where was He when I needed him?' "God said He was in the same place with me, as when His son Jesus was on the cross. He was right there, as He always is with all His children.

Oh, by the way, Mom, no one else can see what I've written except you. To everyone else this is just a blank piece of paper. Isn't that cool? I have to give God His pen back now. He needs it to write some more names in the Book of Life. Tonight I get to sit at the table with Jesus for supper. I'm, sure the food will be great.
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you. I don't hurt anymore. The cancer is all gone. I'm glad because I couldn't stand that pain anymore and God couldn't stand to see me hurt so much, either. That's when He sent The Angel of Mercy to come get me. The Angel said I was a Special Delivery! How about that?

Signed with Love from God, Jesus & Me.

"When you're down to nothing, God is up to something."

Stuff MMP Quiz
Well even I don't know it all on the 20 question quiz Here is my results:

You scored 90%. Well done! If you would like another go then try again.

The questions you got wrong were:

8: What happens if one Independent candidate wins an electorate seat at a general election? there would be 120 MPs but the number of seats available for proportional allocation among parties would be reduced by 1 to 119

15: How can there be fewer than 120 seats in Parliament as a result of the general election? if a party doesn't nominate enough candidates on its party list to fill all the list seats it is entitled to

So I guess I now know thos ones I can go do it again and get 100% but I didn't know either of those two so it is good to see.

By the way I may be bloglite for the next week or so, I had an accident with my laptop.

Oh if you wanna do the test Here it is.

Readers, comments and Blogging
My Constant readers will have seen a lot of variation in the way I blog, whether how regularly or what I have to say, my attitude to blogging the decisions numerous times to carry on and how my opinions have been cemented, I have had a few times when I have thought about giving up blogging and finding a new hobby to pass the time and get my words out there, but I have carried on and really enjoy it.

My Readership has been pretty steady over this time and I have noticed that a mention on another bigger blog gets me a couple of days of increased hits. I have made over 100 posts on this blog alone and I have enjoyed the comments and feedback I have recieved along the way.

Comments come and go, it seems that not so many people comment on my blog anymore, but it is not so much about this, I have discovered that the number of visits being steady will show me that I still have people reading what I have to say and that is good for me.

But blogging is really about getting your opinion heard, I love the freedom to say almost anything I want, and the blogging community is kind of self-regulating as mentioned in the SST, if a blogger says something people think is inappropriate then they are had up about it by other bloggers through comments, I have only had to shut down comments once in my blogging time and this was because I didn't really wish to be seen to break Name supression orders.

But what I am really trying to say is I really enjoy blogging and getting my words out there and suggesting some different opinions to people to see.
Wacky Greens, why would you vote for them
An obscure Green MP, Mike Ward may in five weeks be Minister of Transport. Ward, is proud he has never driven a car, and for that matter has often not had a job. He told the Local Authority Traffic Institute last week he had discovered the answer to traffic, on his trips from Wellington Airport to parliament. Remove all traffic lights so motorists have to negotiate each intersection and the answer to the road toll is to plant trees in the middle of the road. At this point his audience's incredulity became uncontrolled laughter. The trees should be in huge pots and moved around so motorists would not know from one day to the next where the trees will be.

This appeared in todays Letter, This shows just how wacky the Greens really are.

Mike Ward sits at number 8 on the list, he has never driven a car, therefore I guess he would be one of the ones pushing for incrsed taxes on petrol, I wonder if he rides his bike to the airport, and if so do they have long term parking for his bicycle or does he get his driver to drive him there.
Pointless Story??
Is this poll completely pointless and a waste of money?

I think they already knew that the split would basically be down party lines, it was kind of obvious wasn't it and the percentages are even less than the party vote figures from each party within the same poll, this says to me that it is only the labour and national voters who even choose between the two and the rest don't think either would be better for our economy.

Fairfax/AC Neilsen what a waste of money.
Dress Up Party
I have a party to go to in 2 weeks time, it is a dress-up party with Grease as the theme, I was wondering if anyone could possibly give me some more ideas for outfits.

I love Dressing up, but I always have problems coming up with the ideas in the first place, I think I need to work on this somewhat and possibly think more about what to wear, although if you guys can give me some ideas this will help a lot.
Virtual NPC
Well the first week of Virtual NPC is over and I am doing quite badly sitting in 59,349th position, but I will be able to do better I am sure. Go Wellington lets head to the top this year.

The fight for our homepage
This story got my attention, it seems that google, Yahoo, MSN and others are attempting to fight for our usage with more and better free services, as they all want us to return because as it is the more hits they get the more they can charge for advertising I guess, I actually use all of the above, but google for searches, MSN for e-mail and messenger and Yahoo just for messenger.

I am going to start a new poll on which one you use the most.
Rt Hon David Lange
The BBC has this about David Lange passing overnight and they also have a place to post comments about what his legacy is.

The Right Hon David Lange was an amazing man, and one I am disappointed not to have met in his hayday. He was at the front of a lot of changes to this country and the beginning of the less Government that we see now.

This was slightly suprising as the Right normally are the ones wanting less government intervention, but the days of the fourth Labour government changed the way of this country and I believe it was for the better.

Rest in Peace David Lange.
Brent has been a bad boy

Well not only is he involved in a drug trial, but also under investigation by the SFO, This story just says it all, he obviously has no regard for the Laws of this country and thinks because he is a celebrity he can get away with it. Well Brent I have news for you, unlike in the states you cannot pay your way out of your court case.

Brent Todd, is accused of several cases of fraud, ranging from money from the NZRL, to defrauding money from his gaming machines....

So he has had a really bad year.
Wellington More Liberal
10,000 Voters say morals matter. This story was in the Sunday Star times today, and relates to a morality survey they have had recently, I took the survey as I am sure many others did online and the results are in.

Wellington is more liberal than anywhere else in the country.

National's Bill English said the survey pointed to a voter backlash, not of liberal attitudes, but of liberal views being forced upon people. I thought this summed up quite a lot of it, but in my belief it is not so much a backlash at liberal views, but a backlash at PC as well. We are being told how to think how to act and how to live, People don't like being told what to do.
Unfortunate Bush

How's this for a shocking camera shot, the camera man has had a shocker and needs to think about his photo before he takes it.

I will now apologise for my title before I go on, but it is appropriate.

A former bachelor of the year, so I guess we now know why he is a bachelor, he has more fun with four-legged friends than those with only two.

This is a shocker of a story, We live in a sick sick world.

Update: first of all i was just wondering if the post below this one could be related to this guy or does it add a 2nd variable and make it a 2D instead of a line.

And also this is finally my 100th post on this blog, it has taken me a while with my eratic posting but I finally made it.

Grey Area
Franki has a great story on Sexuality discussing the grey area theory, I also subscribe to this theory have a look and see what you think.
The Debate
Brash - Pretty good whoops with the State asset sales, but not many people care about "a few farms" 6/10

Clark - scored a few hits but seemed to me to be just playing the worm and the cameras, and a lot was just attacking the opposition, people see through this 6/10

Peters - well he was the most confident on the night, but said he couldn't work with either party confusing the public the worm tumbled 7/10

Fitzsimons - boring.....boring boring 5/10

Hide - I thought he did pretty well (although everyone will say this is cause I am an ACT supporter, but he got his point across and played it all perfectly, even turned some of the jokes around about him not being there after the election 7.5/10

Turia - No good, all the maori talk is putting voters off, but the thing is as everyone has said it doesn't matter for her party. 3/10

Dunne - He has played the worm perfectly again, Commonsense, Families etc. Best at playing the game and knowing what to say, not quite close enough to the election this time though8/10

Anderton - He suprised most with the Tax cut talk, but he scored with his apprenticeships and his Kiwibank comments, but not really involved. 4/10

So they rank out in this order for me. Dunne, Hide, Peters, Clark, Brash, Fitzsimons,Anderton and Turia.

The effect this will have on the election, not much its a bit to far out, but then again who knows as they say the only poll to listen to is the one on election day.
Anderton wants Tax Cuts
The funniest moment for me in the leaders debate tonight was Anderton agreeing that we need tax cuts that is kind of amusing in all. And the reaction of everyone was quite good, Campbell - "Maybe Rodney this could be the start of something Beautiful" to which Rodney laughed as he should.

I still Say you want tax cuts vote for ACT, that is unless you want a pack of chewing gum in 3 years.

Cricket cancelled
So no Zimbabwe in New Zealand this summer, but seeing the way the series is going currently I don't see it as such a big loss. Here is the story with the accompaning lineup for NZ to tackle this summer, Australia, Sri Lanka and the West indies, with 3 onedayers and a test in Wellington I guess I am spoilt for choice.

Should be a good season, and I won't miss Zimbabwe, not if we keep thrashing them anyway.
Drug Bust Naming.

Name supression has finally been lifted on the first of the celebrity Drug bust suspected. The thing is we all already knew but now we can mention his name. Bad boy Brent Bad Bad Boy. Brent Todd has had his name supression lifted lets see all of it posted every where again, I will be disabling comments on this post. I don't want other names posted, as I do already know them and would post them if I could.
ACT's Billboard

Ok well this has got to be good for ACT. The publicity out of this is going to be huge, the thing is in politics no publicity is bad publicity. Thik about it Rodney got his face all over the news and the longer it goes the more he will be there. Ok I don't agree with the use of the logo, but National shouldn't be complaining they made the double billboards first...Here is the link awesome effort keep it up the more publicity the better, lets get out there and get our message heard.

Hat tip to G-man for the pic.

New Blog
I decided to start a new blog as well as this one and NZ Paradigm. This new one is going to try and be a scandal buster and report on the Government wasting money, it is Dollars but No Sense. I thought it was a good plan, I will still post on both my other ones but seen as I have a lot of free time I thought I should spread the love, if anyone would be keen to join the team on either Dollars No Sense or NZ Paradigm, just drop me a comment here.

About Friends
My Friend Talia, just got back from Italy yesterday, she had been there for 7 months. Its great to have her back, but it has made me realise that my generation is going to be well travelled, and my group of friends is going to spread themselves all over the world...So staying in contact with my friends is going to be via the world of e-mail, but these friends I know now are going to be some of my best friends. I will stay in contact with them wherever they go, and wherever I am I will always be around for them.

Stay in contact guys I am here, even if here is the other side of the world in the future.

Life is short
Not Politics or Sport, but I need to post on this.

Yesterday I went to a funeral. It was for oe of my best mates little sisters who passed away from cancer. It has shown me yet again that life is short and we have to live for today, diseases like cancer don't differentiate between ages and they don't pick between good people and others, they can take anyone at anytime. The strength of a person really shows in these times.

The funeral was a great celebration of her life and showed how much people really care, it has taught me a few things. No matter what happens in life you have to be strong, you have to live for today and the rest will take care of itself, and most importantly your friends are the ones that will be there for you through the hard times, no matter what happens you can't lose contact with these people.

No matter what happens your friends will be there for you and will be strong for you, even if you can't be for yourself.

I have also realised that a funeral is about a celebration of life and a way to share memories that you have. It is also about supporting each other and being there.

So always live life to the full, love your friends and don't lose contact.

Carpe Diem
